The Department of English was established in 1967 along with the inception of the college. At the beginning, Prof. C. R. Kulkarni and Late Prof. R. K. Wankhede served as the first faculty members. Subsequently, Dr. S. R. Deshmukh, Late Dr. G. T. Ambhore, and Dr. S. I. Jukkalkar joined the department.
The faculty has consistently worked to impart English language skills to students. English Literature is offered as an optional subject at the undergraduate level. The department also has a recognized research centre, where three research scholars are currently enrolled in the Ph.D. programme.
In accordance with the recommendations of NEP 2020, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University—our affiliating university—has revised the English syllabus. Earlier, English was taught as a compulsory language at the undergraduate level across all three faculties. Following the new structure, several courses such as Ability Enhancement Course (AEC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), and Generic Open Elective (GOE) have been introduced. These courses aim to strengthen students’ communication skills. English Language has also been introduced as a Major/Minor subject for B.A. students.
The Department is equipped with a language laboratory containing 11 computers and language learning software. Very soon the lab will be upgraded with 40 computers. A Certificate Course in English Communication for Workplace and Business is regularly conducted, and interested students enroll each year. The Department also organizes an annual workshop focusing on English language skills.
At present, Dr. Syed Imtiaz Jukkalkar is serving as the Head of the Department, supported by two CHB teachers, Ms. Nita Ubhe and Mr. Sanket Rindhe. Under the guidance of Hon'ble Principal Dr. Pramod R. Padole, the Department remains committed to providing quality education.
