Department of English is established in 1967, with the establishment of the college. At the commencement, Prof. C. R. Kulkarni and late Prof. R. K. Wankhede joined as faculty members. Later, Dr. S. R. Deshmukh, Late Dr. G. T. Ambhore and Dr. S. I. Jukkalkar were appointed.
The faculty members have been working to impart skills of English Language to the students. English literature is one of the optional subjects; students can opt at graduation level. The Department has research centre also. At present two research scholars enrolled for Ph. D. programme.
The Department has highest number of students as English is taught as second language and it is compulsory for all the students belonging to Humanities, Commerce and Science faculties. The Department possesses language lab equipped with 11 PCs and a language learning software. Certificate Course in Communication Skills in English is run by the Department. Interested students enroll for the course. The Department also conducts a Workshop on Communication skills in English every year.
At present Dr. Jukkalkar Syed Imtiaz is working as the Head of the Department. The department will keep striving to impart quality education to the students under the able guidance of honourable principal Dr. O. S. Deshmukh.
Dr. G. T. Ambhore has completed in 2019 one research project entitled as “Ethnological Study of Dalit Autobiographies with Reference to Bama’s ‘Karukku,’ Urmila Pawar’s ‘Weave of my Life’ and Baby Kamble’s ‘The Prison We Broke’. The area of the study was “Marginalized Literature”.
Dr. Jukkalkar Syed Imtiaz, the HOD of the department is a university recognized supervisor and two research scholars are pursuing Ph. D. degree under his supervision.
