Department Of Physics

Introduction

The Department of Physics has been actively functioning since 1967 and is permanently affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. The department offers the UG programme only and is one of the core subjects in the mathematics group leading to B.Sc. degree. The syllabus is framed by S.G.B. Amravati University as per the UGC guidelines for Semester Systems. At the time of establishment students were admitted to Pre-University class in two sections viz. Pre-University Maths and Pre-University Biology. Two teaching staff members viz. Mr. U. U. Kharat and Mr. S. M. Patil were appointed from the very date of opening of the college, as faculties in the Physics Department.

Electronics and Computer Science were introduced as an optional subject in science stream from the session 1986-87 and 1988-89. These were allied subjects of Physics department till 1990-91 and were separated from Physics Department from the session 1991-92 with the separate establishment of these departments.

Currently the department has modern equipments for experiments and a good core library consisting of about 120 titles. The computers of the department are connected to Broad Band Internet. The department is presently headed by Mr. N. B. Thakare. This Department is known for inculcating good scientific culture, educational values and maintenance of discipline so as to make students competent for teaching and learning activities.
